Everything you need to start your at home workouts
Let’s face it: COVID isn’t going anywhere, any time soon. As much as I wish I could hug and sweat with you all IRL (oh, and travel, have my wedding, kiss my grandma) - it’s just not safe. Minnesota is having over 5k cases a day, our ICU beds are full and it is so important to stay home whenever possible - ESPECIALLY when it comes to group fitness. A room full of strangers sweating + huffing + puffing is the ultimate COVID breeding ground. We are here to help you modify and get that “group fitness high” from the comfort of your home. We’re including links to our go to equipment for SSC classes and including other options you might have at your home while you wait for them to ship.
Pilates Ball:
Our favorite barre prop is the mini pilates ball. I often say I'll love things more than my first born child because they both intensify your movements AND prevent injury. This tiny ball will help you find muscles you didn’t know existed and expand your swear word jar funds as you use it during class.
No pilates ball? Grab your thickest throw pillow and use it instead in our barre classes. It won’t create quite the same intensity, but giving your body (and brain!) something to cling to will help activate more muscles
Sliders
Sliders are a badass barre tool - they help us engage our core in everything we do in class. By providing an element of controlled instability we are able to activate deep core strength without risking injury. There are many substitutes for sliders in barre, like a hardcover book or socks, but the nice thing about having the real deal is that we can then incorporate them into HIIT + strength workouts, too!
Bands
Not the kind that make her dance. Although.. they might! These booty bands will help you level up your barre class and enable you to have an awesome, low impact strength workout, too! By adding in a band to a HIIT workout you can take the jumps out of almost any exercise and get the same effect without pissing off your downstairs neighbors.
Or, if you’re feeling really spicy, keep the jumps + add the bands and watch those booty cheeks firm + grow!
Barre + Yoga Sculpt Weights
Small but mighty, less is more in both of these classes. The magic of barre is “time under tension” meaning almost no breaks - so very quickly into the movements 2 pounds start to feel like 20.
With Yoga sculpt you are moving, flowing, breathing, burpee-ing in all kinds of directions so these weights are going to make you feel like they’re the grinch’s heart - growing 3 times each day - by the end of class.
Heavy Weights
This will amp up your HIIT like nobody’s business and help decrease the amount of impact you need to do in order to get your heart rate pumping. These are definitely optional, but I love having a set of either 10 or 15 lb dumbbells for the days when jumping just isn’t going to happen for me.
If you don’t have heavy dumbbells feel free to use your toddler, dog, college textbooks, or a case of wine instead.
